The Artemis III mission, as its name suggests, will mark the third mission of NASA's Artemis program and its second with a crew on board. Like Artemis II, the mission will see four astronauts—NASA’s Randy Bresnick, Frank Rubio, and Andre Douglas, and the European Space Agency’s (ESA) Luca Parmitano—hitch a ride on the Orion spacecraft on top of the agency's Space Launch System (SLS) rocket. Expect this time, they won't be traveling all the way to the Moon. Instead, they'll spend about 14 days in low-Earth orbit, where two commercial lunar test landers developed by Blue Origin and SpaceX will rendezvous and dock with Orion to test integrated operations, thus reducing the risk for when astronauts actually descend on the Moon on one of the landers as part of Artemis IV. The mission is currently scheduled to launch in 2027.
