Tesla’s new ‘flying’ Roadster car defies gravity with SpaceX thrusters
Tesla unveiled its second-generation Roadster on October 15, 2026, at SpaceX’s test site in McGregor, Texas, with a demo in which the car drove up a curved ramp, flipped, and floated over a line of Tesla vehicles using SpaceX-derived cold-gas thrusters. The thrusters use compressed air instead of rocket fuel. It isn’t the Roadster’s first link to SpaceX: a first-generation Tesla Roadster, Elon Musk’s own car, was launched into space on the first Falcon Heavy flight on February 6, 2018, and has been orbiting the Sun ever since. Tesla describes Performance, Thrust, and Rocket versions, with production reportedly planned for 2028.
