THREE IN ONE! NASA scientists found a Sun eruption that combined three types of solar explosions
NASA scientists found a single eruption on the Sun that showed traits of three different types of solar explosions, NASA said in June 2021. NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory and the European Space Agency and NASA’s Solar and Heliospheric Observatory observed the event on March 12 and 13, 2016. A hot layer of material erupted that was too big for a jet but too narrow for a coronal mass ejection, and within half an hour a cooler layer erupted from the same place and fell back to the Sun. NASA solar scientist Emily Mason said the eruptions are caused by the same mechanism at different scales, and understanding it could help predict space weather.
