MRV explained: Inside Northrop Grumman's new satellite-servicing spacecraft

A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket has successfully launched Northrop Grumman's Mission Robotic Vehicle (MRV) from Cape Canaveral, marking the debut of a first-of-its-kind commercial satellite-servicing mission. Built to operate in geostationary orbit (GEO), the MRV is equipped with two advanced robotic arms capable of inspecting, relocating, upgrading and servicing operational satellites. The spacecraft will also deploy three Mission Extension Pods (MEPs), propulsion modules designed to extend a satellite's operational life by up to eight years. If successful, the mission could reduce satellite replacement costs and mark a major step toward routine in-orbit satellite servicing.
