About Tom Urbain, Founder of starlust.org

Hey, fellow space lovers!

My name is Tom Urbain and I am the man behind starlust.org. I created this website to share my knowledge and passion for all things space related.

I have been in love with space since I was a young boy, and over the years, that passion only grew stronger. I started out by reading everything I could get my hands on, then when YouTube become a thing, I consumed content from there voraciously.

At the same time, I have been an avid stargazer for more than 15 years. In my opinion, the night sky should be the eighth wonder of the world. There is just something so magical and humbling about looking up at the stars.

I am originally from France but I have been living in the UK for a little more than 11 years now. So whilst the weather is not always on my side, I still make the most of my telescope or astronomical binoculars whenever I can! I am lucky enough to have two beautiful daughters with whom I can sometimes share my passion (they are still a bit too young to stay up too late at night though!)

My favourite type of telescope is the Dobsonian telescope. I believe they represent the best value for the money and can show you so much of the night sky: from the planets to galaxies and nebulae.

I write most of the articles myself but I sometimes hire freelance writers to help me out with content production.

The site is organised into 6 different sections.

In this section, you will find practical guides on how to get started with stargazing, what equipment you need and what you can observe in the night sky.

This is where you will find detailed articles on how to choose and use different types of telescopes, as well as everything you need to master their use.

This section is dedicated to those who have dedicated their lives to space exploration: the astronauts. But it is also about everything related to human space exploration, past, present and future.

The astronomy section is a collection of articles about the universe in general and everything that can be found in it: galaxies, stars, planets, moons, asteroids… It is a treasure trove of answers about how things work in space.

This section contains articles that are more on the uncategorized side of things. Here you will find books, documentaries and space movies that I like, as well as links to websites and podcasts that I believe, are worth your time.

Finally, the gear review section is where I share my opinion on different space-related products, from telescopes to binoculars and mobile apps.

I hope you enjoy your time here and that you find the content useful. If you have any questions or suggestions, please do not hesitate to contact me via the contact form below.

In the press

The editors at BBC Sky at Night recently contacted me to ask if they could print my “Periodic Table of Messier Objects” in their magazine!

I still can’t believe this happened! It is such an honor to have my work published in such a prestigious publication!
